Initial Meeting
The initial meeting can be a phone consultation, in-person meeting to walk-through the wellness center, or a trial session.
The initial trial session is only offered to those we think would benefit from experiencing what music therapy might look and feel like. It is not appropriate for all clients. Those that it is not appropriate for are individuals experiencing suicidal ideation and other mental health symptoms, a recent traumatic events, behavioral concerns, significant sensory needs, and families. Those that might qualify are those seeking services for physical motor strength and coordination, speech and language, attention, and other cognitive skills such as planning, organizing, and problem solving, and some children seeking early intervention services, to name a few.
Assessment
An assessment and evaluation process is conducted at the beginning of all services. It is a standard part of our music therapy-informed process and informs the progression of therapy. In this assessment/evaluation we analyze all aspects of an individual within these domains: sensory, motor, communication, cognitive, social, emotional, mental, behavioral, and music. This process can also include a review of family and medical history, other therapy evaluations, review of education plans (for children and teens), and other information. A full assessment is required for holistic music wellness and music therapy enrichment services. It is conducted over the course of 2 sessions (approximately 45 minutes in length), includes an extensive written report, and a meeting with the individual and/or caregivers/parents. Hybrid Music Enrichment and group services are exempt from this standard evaluation. The evaluation, in this case, is conducted over the course of the first 2-3 sessions.
Handbook
Instead of entering into a contract with each individual, we ask each client seeking serves through Giving Song to read our Handbook and sign our Agreement. The handbook provides a thorough review of our processes and procedures. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email (givingsong@gmail.com) or by phone (573-303-5772).
